When I start a new game I can't do anything. No menu's come up when I select the unit or city. What's up? All I can do is fix the tower and set up a trade route to the farm. Nav instructions won't go away either.

You have to finish the opening tutorials before you can move on. Don't worry; if you follow the instructions you can finish the tutorials in only a few seconds, and this is the only compulsory tutorial.
