Just look at existing mods and play with them.

Also, in Treadmark's entities folder (and sub folders) you will find text files describing the various parameters for each entity type.

beyond that there is nothing more anyone can teach you. Looking at existing entity files and playing with the various parameters is how I (and everyone else) learned. Thats the best way. :)

Good luck ;)

but what a unique opportunity you have for bonding with your little bro. :D
just think of all of the hours of fun that you two can have doing various mods.
or... just teach him how to use gimp and blender and let him do all of the art for you.

I use to do CG for a production company, so I have experience with Lightwave. I just don't have any freetime nowadays.

some2 things you have to make sure of:

1) You must only use triangles, 3 point polygons. Polygons that donot contain 3 points will not work at all.

2) You must make sure that the polygons are facing the correct direction. If they face the wrong way, then your object will be introverted , basically the outside is actually facing the inside causing parts to be invisible.

3) Design objects in 1 meter scale. Otherwise they'll be too big or too small, which can also make them invisible.

how do you know if the polygons are facing the correct way?

trial and error :)

Say you have a triangle with its verticies numbered 1,2 and 3. as such:

[code:1:918456c6a5]
1
|\
| \
3--2
[/code:1:918456c6a5]

If you order the verticies 1,2,3 (ie., 'clockwise') the triangle faces one direction. If you order them 3,2,1 (ie., 'counterclockwise') then the triangle faces the opposite direction. IIRC, For Lightwave, if the triangle's verticies are ordered clockwise, the triangle facing towards you. If you order the verticies counterclockwise in Lightwave, then it faces away from you.

Hope that helps.

Okay, to mod is simple. Let's see if you can make some basic changes to the machine gun.

Now go to, C:/Program Files/LDA Games/TreadMarks

Make a folder, name it addons, once you have made it, go into it and make another folder.

Entities Now go into that Folder and make one more called Weapons

Now go back to the main directory,

In there you will find a Folder, Entities, go into it.

You will see an assortment of folders. Find Weapons, now there should be a file called, HeavyMG. Open it in Wordpad or Notepad.

Once inside you should see a line of text, Reloadtime = 0.1

Change that, to Reloadtime = 0.01

Now find the next line, ammo = 60

change it to, ammo = 600

Next, click save as and save it into the entities folder you made. There you have now made a mod.

I started by changing projectiles...it's pretty self explanitory, just open the Ent files in Wordpad and change to your liking.

And then follow the ent chain to get see where it leads. Smoke, Sound, Explo Ents...can be pretty fun. Basically easiest way to start us duplicate the entities folder and rename to addons...then go nuts. if you mess up, no worries, just delete it and no harm. :)
