in the weapons ent:

SecEnt = mesh/WaveMotionGlow

and then the WaveMotionGlow.ent:

The scalematrix line above controls the size of the laser which is actually 1m x 1m x 1m in size.

As you can see, for some reason the Zentreadi Assult weapon used the same technique, but the secent mesh hung around after the weapon itself disappeared. It doesn't happen with the WMC, the Arc Welder, and the SAM weapons. Still trying to figure out why.

was wondering if transitory might something to due with things not going away when there're sposed to

Transitory basically tells a specific ent to synch itself with the server constantly. For example, you need to tell the cruise missile to always display the same on the server and all clients, because if you didn't, the somewhat random nature of the guiding (and lag) could cause it to look like it's going one direction on a client's machine, but it's actually going an entirely different direction.
