Hi,

Can anyone explain to me how server side weapons work vs. client side?

Thanks.

Simple only use textures, meshs, sprites and sounds that are found on a stock TM install. Just create ent files.

to expand on kilier's response; server side weapons require nothing that isn't already used by TM, just used differently for example if you were to use the nuke(icbm mesh IIRC) but resized (use scale matrix) and a different texture (picked from art\textures) than stock and then used the various weapon, projectile ents to give it new charateristics. had had it running on a server, when a client (human player) logs on, all the game needs to do is send them the modified ents and everything is happy(more or less, ppl already playing will experience some stuttering as the ents are synched, which is why one shouldn't have over many ents w/o haveing a dl server pak). on the other hand client/server mods which contain new material, both client and server need to have them(while it is possible for the client to not have them, it may cause the game to crash, it can be difficult to aim an invisible weap. specially if you don't know where it is mounted) by the same token if the player uses a flag/tank that is not on the server, it will cause everyone problems

Especially flags. If you made a flag, try to get it into the master flag pack. Or else no one will see it on the server...

OK, I get it now.

Thanks. I did submit the SSG flag, but it doesn't seem to be in the master flag pack I downloaded today.
I was curious about the SSO and Client side weapons which lead me to ask.
BTW, while I like the maps, some of the weapons are so over kill, it degrades play. Guess I know now why I see mostly regular weapons out on the net. Even running on a switched LAN I was seeing problems with one player.
Thanks for the info.

I downloaded the master maps, weapons, sso weapons, the tanks and flags and this is what I find in the ded log, ?Suggestions? The server which should be smooth chops all over the place. Should I just start over and run a plain Jane?

Liquid tanks/weapons won't have a LUV file for them...

Well, that's your problem right there. If you're running a server that has every flag/tank/map/weapon installed, then it's pretty much guaranteed to be an absolute mess, lag-wise.

Not only are some of the weapons laggy by nature and shouldn't be used for online play, but the sheer volume of stuff you've got installed would tax most connections.

As they both said...

Not every LWO has an associated LUV and TM tells you...but that is how its supposed to be. As for the choppyness...could be several things:
a. Just far too much on the system for TM to handle well...especially on a network connection
b. Are you running the client and the server on the same computer? That often becomes choppy if you are doing any internet play.

The TM server is a stand-a-lone p/III 600E w/128MB RAM and nothing better to do.
The network is 100BaseTX switch (hypothetical 200MB througput). I've tested and file transfer through the system is very good to the WAN (145-187KBPS) and screaming on the LAN (1,200+/-).
I figured that the sheer volume of stuff might be the problem. Guess I'll need to poke around and pick weapons out of the zips.
I had originally pulled most of the new liquid (rediculous jello and pool ball) tanks and then set some of the kiddie weapon weights to 0, but it didn't improve that much.
Thanks for the input.

looking at the list, nope those are all normal. you'll get a list like that even with a stock install(missing luv files isn't a problem as far as running the game) problem as it were is the amount of ram, I'ld guess that you would need double the ram to smooth things out. solution if the server isn't connected to the internet you can dump most of the flags, failing that, go with say 10 weapons & tanks you like and see how it goes(near as I can tell maps don't cause probs like this) HTH
