I was given a model to look at by a friend, but he forgot to tell me what format it could be viewed in. anyways the format is a .pk3 file and i have no idea what opens those. i tried 3d exploration but it doesnt support that format. does anyone know?

what you most likely have is a 'PacKage' file from Quake 3. if you can arrange to get the model in md3 format (possibly by exporting using a Q3 utility) you can use 'LithUwrap'(see the links page) to view the model and convert it to other formats(like lwo ) HTH
BTW welcome to the forum

after a bit of searching I've come up with a couple of possible solutions #1 make a backup copy of the file next rename one of them so that the file extension is zip(note this may or may not work, hence the backup) then try unzipping the file, if it works you should find a number of files inside. you need the md3 and tga files.
#2 hunt up a copy of 'PakScape' (believe the current version is -008) and open the file with that. extract the md3 and tga files as above
