Yeah yeah, here's my list:
Modding: Gedit, Kwrite, Emacs(maybe) & Xemacs, and cooledit (plus a dozen more i can't remember the names to, but they all have their upsides and down sides, and they're all free)

2d Graphics: Gimp (adobe photoshop, only free and more filters are included, woooo), qCAD (like autocad, only FREE!), magik image (i think that's the name, basically an advanced form of M$paint, and free), Adobe Photoshop 4.1.1, PhotoImpact, gqview (for finding a good texture quickly for a new thingy that doesn't have it's own skin, it's free too), texturizer (for making textures), and Xaos (free fractal program)

3D Graphics: Of course: Blender, Game Blender, 3dwin, qCAD (kinda got some 3d, don't these things?), blob maker (something else that's free), mesh maker (free), and maybe something i forgot...... oh, i really did forget something but i can't remember what... >:-(

BTW... did i mention all of this (except adobe photoshop, blob maker, and mesh maker) work under linux, and everything but adobe photoshop, blob maker, mesh maker, and texturizer came from linux... woooooooo. Linux is DA BOMB for modding... :P
oh, another thing, those modding programs, most have the abilities of compiling code along with identifying and colouring code, not to mention a bundle of stuff that UltraEdit and HexEdit combined have, only the latter two i mentioned cost money...

Mwahahahahahahahah, i love bragging about linux, now if only i could stop nearl destroying the computer by doing stupid things, i'd be home free, heheheh.

myself I've been using anim8r & zmodeler. of the two anim8r is prolly better suited for making models for tm. main reason I use zmod is, it can texture map and export files compatible with various games. if you are used to working with surfaces you will prolly get along with zmod(if you can get it to run). anim8r OTOH has a number of features that zmod doesn't. both last I heard were freeware

I wouldn't buy Lightwave if I had the cash. I _MIGHT_ get 3DSMax, but really, blender is so powerfull there's no need for anything else...

Found this free poly reduction/decimator program. Don't know how good it is but it's free... You want to goto download and grab ProgMesh 1.2. All you have to do is register it online...that's all.

I found a great bitmap program that's free. No, it's not Gimp. This one is Serif's PhotoPlus 5. It's got a great exporter that allows you to see the file size and quality as you select the various bit levels before exporting. Check it out!
