Windows update doesn't provide it for XP anymore (some settlement with Sun?). I can't get or find it at Sun's website. How does one look at the cute little Java animations these days? My life is incomplete without them.

So I download this: http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html

But I still can't see the kissy face on the bottom of this thread: http://www.treadmarks.de/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.cgi?board=general&action=display&num=1026795765&start=0

(the smiley face right after "You can have my Bud Light." is suppose to be kissing)

Not sure what to do. Other Java stuff seems to work though.

That's not Java at the bottom of that thread... It's just a ".gif"-animation.

In XP the first time you hit something Java Windows will ask if you want the JVM installed. It does that automatically. I installed when it asked and have had no problem with Java ever since. But Dreamer is right the smiley at the bottom of that page is just an animated .gif and should not require Java to work.

Exactly right Sailor. But if you reload XP as I did a week ago you'd find that you'd still be prompted to load JVM. But when you click the applet to do so, you're directed to a page that says auto installation is no longer supported for XP. In fact, I couldn't find anything at all on Microsoft's site for JVM. I'm almost certain it has to do with some settlement MS did with Sun.

Anyway, It turns out my gif problem was caused by the pop-up stopping proxy I'm using. Thanks for the help.

Sorry to hear that the automatic install is no longer supported, but I understand that they are going to put the JVM in the SP1 that they are building for XP to come out later this year. No help now, but it will work with that new service pack.
