Lithium: You should read the roam paper and the Rottger paper (Called ""Real-Time Generation of Continuous Levels of Detail for Height Fields"). Sorry, but I don't want to use LOD. And I've read those papers before. If it took a couple of scientists with PhDs hired by the government to come up with an algorithm like that, then I absolutely have no hope in understanding it myself anyway without any bit of code. I'm hoping someone can specifically answer my questions. Please read my post if anyone would like to help me out.

You're absolutely right, and I'm beginning to take the hint. Can someone suggest another bulletin board that is devoted to the discussion of terrain development? Quadtrees, heightmaps, texturing, etc.. I am not looking for game sites that talk about it in general once in a blue moon, I need a place where there is an active and long-going disussion happening.
