I NEVER SAID NO-SUCH THING! "hinted at hidden agendas?....stock?....modded?....no hidden agenda?....no secret there?".....WHAT ON EARTH???? IF I HAD THOUGHT ANYTHING LIKE THAT, I WOULD HAVE COME RIGHT OUT AND SAID IT!

When I refer to the people who apparently run the game, that's because they are the people who run the game, aren't they? Who else? I'M NOT ATTACKING ANYBODY! I wanted someone to listen and maybe even help to SOLVE the INCREASED lag that MANY people have noticed. I also like all the different servers, stock, ctf, modded and racing, it all makes up Treadmarks, where on earth did you read that from my post?

Every game has lag, I'm referring to the increased lag that many people have noticed, but somehow I don't think many more would have the nerve to mention again, I made the mistake of putting it into words and posting it here, I won't again. Same result, no-one listens, no help, nothing changes....again.
Forget it.

Matrix, I used to think you were the innocent party in your many arguements, and I felt some sympathy for the vitriol aimed your way, I now know you inspire it.

Well Marm, since this stemmed from my thread about a poor ping, I never got any lag and FYI it's nothing to do with the mods or logscan, it's my isp during business hours and by the look of things, probably normal!

Wake up Marm...

Why cant ppl just enjoy the game for what it is rather than whipping it for what its not. Its not the most perfect game on the planet, its not lag free. Every game has its fair share of whiners, and like others before me i got sick of the whining, why do you think i dont play anymore ? Why do you think mods i make stay on my pc, where the only person who can properly appreciate them is me.

I posted your informational fix, did you read it ? Its all that can be done... treadmarks runs on voxel landscape, not vector (the popular choice in todays marketplace because it shunts less data around) and as such it has to shift a heck of a lot of data around.

Its been said b4 many times by many ppl, video lag is not the same as line lag (ping). Theres only so many things u can adress b4 u run out of options and have to accept what u have for the best u can get, regardless of extra services, fixes, patches or systems ppl put in place to help YOU.

And criticism form some1 with multiple personality dissorder feels just great - thx. So now youve slated me, wanna tell me why u slated DNX in the first place, like it was some kind of higher status or sumthin ?

But then again Marm, he's DNX

Reffering to yourself in the 3rd person is really strange man....

And if at all possible can u not get multiple thread syndrome too ? one thread is enough for one topic.

Glad to hear it, Ni, that's something I'm looking into right now also, hopefully it's something like that for me.

Matrix, Nice to see you can be constructive without being too offensive also, if there's nothing I can do about it, it only needed someone to come out and say so, I don't know anything about the in's and out's of the server complexities, I can't be the only one, now we know.

Ok fair enough, a smiley - still seemed like another bash, oh well... forget it, water under the bridge n' all that.

It's just that (FYI) this has been discussed countless times (and at great length and detail by killer) not too long ago, a simple search would have revealed the info/answers you were looking for, ppl are just tired of repeating it - and - its a wise person that suggested this forum have sticky posts; unfortunately, you cant, not here.. but all these fixes and info can be found at the DMF (some in sticky's). In fact, just to nub a point, you really dont have to look far to find the answers to "why" in the treadmarks community, thats what the search button is for ^^ up there

I guess I should mention, I often use smilies in exactly the same way.

Just in case I've confused/offended anyone in the past.

I think the whole crux is that alot of people have noticed increased lag on the stock server since all the other "community servers" started running.

Or maybe all our connections just decided to go kablooie at the same time?

While I'm at it: It seems that since all this "community building" started, attendence has gone down at the ddm and at other times. Seems that the same circle of players are attending these little events. Hows about doing something besides the same old thing week after week. Possibly ask people here if they have any ideas about what they want? Not everyone reads the forum at DMF or chit chats on ICQ/AIM. All I see here is a bunch of posts every week telling us what you guys are running this particular week.

Its true theres a general lack of interest in the community at the moment, mods arent doing it, servers arent doing it - so what does everyone want next would be a good question.

On the comment of all our connections.. well, over the last 2 years theres been a massive increase of spam, its cripling servers worldwide and DOES account for a large percentage of lag and adds to the global slowdown of the internet... as more and more useless data gets shoved around, the better connections have to get and the more bandwidth providers need to cope with it.

MS for once has the best idea - pay for each email you send - digital postage stamps, i for one dont mind spending say 5p for every mail i send because im spending bugger all.... the spammers on the other hand would go outta business pretty quick at 5 million mails a day.

IF Ms decide to go this route, ISP charges should drop, technology is better afforded, better equipment rovided and the boost to the net would be incredible. Even my DSL crawls at peak times. so in a way Kong, youre right.. it is all our connections - but thats only part of the problem, and sadly, its one part we cant do anything about.

Heres a small example to illustrate this...

And THAT is just 1 of 4 pages from the last 5 hours... I got 6 mails that were for me today .... 6, the rest is spam that cloggs up servers and lines sending it to me.... its crap... the time and money this wastes is incredible... there should be a proper law against it making it a jailable offence.

Im sure we would all benefit from it a great deal, plus the satisfaction that the sick prick who sent them all is in jail with his donkey dick, viagra, holidays to spain, sex farm, niagran bank and ebay scams.

It's been asked.
It's been discussed.
Its been argued.
Do you see the blue in my face???
If there is something that you want (aside from STOCK 24/7/365, which is already in place on the LDA stock server) just say so.
I truly hope that people don't feel like they can't post what they want to see/play. That would be really sad to hear. There have been MANY posts with the subject along the lines of "next sunday is a fun DDM, what would you guys like to play?" and getting nary an answer.
  • WE DO PUT UP WHAT THE COMMUNITY WANTS.
  • We do read the forum
  • We do read emails
  • We are on ICQ

Recently GBV stated he wants an event for every day of the week. AT his point, the ball is in his court. GBV, if you write up (or just edit) config files for all the events you want to put on, the servers can probably be started for you. Now, I haven't persued this at all, as Joey is planning on stopping LogScan at the end of this month. No logscan means no access to the LDA servers. No access to the servers means no switching between them at will. No switching means that there will be a major change to the schedules. Why do the work if it ain't gonna happen, in essence?

My apologies if I went off half cocked in the other thread. As Killer states, there are ICQ messages one gets that one doesn't make public, which complain about various things. After a while, it does get tiring, and I have to admit, I am human and I have my weaknesses. Seems like there is far more criticism sometimes and not so much praise. As a server administrator, I can change net rate and such in the config file, but those have already been set for what *should* maximize game play for TMers. There have been many posts about lag and ways to affect it. Discussions about video lag vs net lag have happened. The information IS there, one just has to do a bit of searching.

Well said Sue... imho being a server admin, modding for the masses and putting yourself out to make things better for ppl just isnt worth the hasstle you get back as a result.

This is why cellshade and bz mods will remain closed and available only to the ppl who already have copies, or been involved in some way in the creation process.

Sticky posts would really have answered everythin' before even putting fingers to keyboard, and searching ( didn't even think of.... er.. that's a really small search button ) is another really, really good idea.

A great deal of thought has obviously gone into the scan thingy and config files and people have gone to some lengths to help sort the varied probs, I er ..Just...needed someone to point me in the right direction , and there's certainly no need to apologize to someone who's more than likely to ask what's a DDM's all about next!

Now before I take these books "How to make friends at great distances" and "How to eat humble pie without choking" back to the library, can anyone tell me ....

is there's absolutely nothing else I can do?

Post anything important at DMF and ill make it a sticky. Im not dissing this forum, but DMF's system has more possibilities for locking, sticking, hiding, mailing etc - than you can shake a stick at.

Ive said it before... the facility is there, if you use it u use it, if u dont, u dont. Kinda like owning a car full of gas and setting off to walk the 20 miles to work... it gets hard going after a while huh

Theres are many such forums in the TM community. LDA has a yabb board with sticky capability, so does GA, so does BWL and so does Coaxs.net.. dont feel you have to stick with just one forum, spread yourself around and keep some bookmarks.

TIP: If youre using Internet Explorer, save pages in MHT format, its a very efficient way to keep the information.

I think we all need to kick back and take a look at the big picture for a minute: I've been rather removed from this discussion and to me it's obvious that everyone is doing what they can. Let's face it,somem if not all, of these problems may be unsolvable. And solving any problems is going to require a consolidated effort from all of us.

The only way yer not gonna get a bunch of lag due to other things not in yer control (like viruses, worms, trojans sucking up the internet bandwidth) is to run a local lan party and crank the snot out of whatever paramters you want to see or play with.
