1. I recently purchased the full, boxed version of Tread Marks, and I have sent the registration card to the publisher (AAAGame.com).

2. When I run Tread Marks, the following appears at the top of the main menu screen:

Tread Marks 1.5.5 Full UK

In the TM Application Properties, the “File version” is 1.5.5.1

3. I downloaded the following update from the Longbow Digital Arts web site:

Jun 04, 2001 3.1 MB tm 155 to 16 patch.exe – Retail v1.5.5 -> v1.6 patch

4. MY PROBLEM--When I try to install the update, an error message appears:

This program cannot update the installed version of Tread Marks 1.6 because of the following reason:

C:\Program Files\Tread Marks\config.cfg: unknown version.

I’ve (carefully) looked in the config.cfg file; there’s no information in the file about version.

5. Can you help me with this problem? Thank you for your assistance.

I believe that some have found it better to upgrade to the 1.5.9 version then from there to the 1.6. That is just my memory, and it might easily be fallible, and I don't remember why it was easier/better for them. You might try doing that if you can.

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again.
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Its my recollection that for that patch for the UK version only, you need to move the config.cfg to your desktop. Install the patch, and then replace th config file. I'm not 100% on this, but my brain is still fairly sharp. Good luck and welcome to the game.
Holler if you still need help.
