Just bought this game today. Possibly the most satisfying racer ever. The Armegedeon level is just, well, beautiful. The Ice level incredibly subtle and the Moon I find SO frustrating (just stay cool). Cant believe Ive never heard of this game - it cost me 3 pounds (5 dollars US). The best 3 pounds Ive ever spent (sorry if that sounds patronising but ive got a dial-up, I can spend the best part of a day d.loading some peice of sh*t free game just to find its unplayable or, worse, boring)

THEN I find this. AND a whole community playing the thing. Excellent work guys.

I do have a point - Ive had a quick look thru the board - can you point a newbie in the best direction? Mods, servers, etc.

Thanks in advance - rizla_hustla

lol - overload!!!

thanks for the quick answers and im still d.loading TreadMarksHQ.exe (in chunks!! (.9k/sec as i type this!) but what I'd really like isnt a DM - I'd like a race - my ping is rubbish but the beauty of this game IMHO is anticipation.

Ive tried a coupla server games but all i get is bots.

If you like racing then we have a every week race time. The only problem, since your talking pounds, is that it is at 4 am GMT if I remember how to change the time right. I am on at odd times so if you want ICQ me if I am on and I will see about doing a little racing with you. That would be one dial-upper against another.

Anywho, welcome to the family.

Hello Rizla and welcome to the TM community. Every Thursday is racing and the race server is up for folks to get ladder points. The Race server with the 6 AI you see running on TM all the time is my server running the modded weapons that are used for Thursday nite racing.

If you have any question regarding any race stats or rules or downloads for the race ladder just click on my link in my sig line.

Hope to see you at racing.

Nice to meet you Rizla_hustla. I go by GA_Queen or Blue and Gold Sue if you should ever see me on a server.
Lesse.. what's missed:
Sunday nights at 8 eastern time (1 am for you) on the LDA Community Server is a standing event, the type of event changes on the week of the month. 1st Sunday of the month is a ctf game, 2nd Sun is a Ranked DDM (Coaxs keeps a ladder for standing, so see his sig link for details), 3rd Sun is a fun DDM, which is generally a modded DDM, 4th Sunday is a clan battle. There are several active clans in TM, there are the GoldAnts, BWL (black widow lance), DNX (based in the UK), DOGs (Death or Glory - also, if I'm not mistaken, based in the UK, thought the leader took a sabbatical and hasn't shown up for a while...) as well as a few small clans/guilds, such as the original mining guild (lots of history there). If there is a 5th Sunday in the month, it is a race day. On the 2nd Sunday, the ranked DDM day, there is also to be a Euro Ranked DDM for those of you in a different time zone. This event is at 1 pm pacific time, so that makes it 9 pm GMT. Its not heavily attended, but people do show up. There is a standing CTF game wednesday nights (early am for you) and the standing race time on Thursdays. There is the occasional TEAM CTF game as well, but one hasn't been scheduled for a while.
As for mods, you may know this already, but here goes...
TM only recognizes ONE addons folder. Some mods will create their own folder that you have to rename to get it to play in the game. The HQ pack is one much mod (and its well worth the download, btw). I think it installs itself into a folder called HQ mod (or HQaddon) which you then have to rename addons. I mention this, as you can only have one folder names addons (the other addon folder would have to be renamed something like "addonsRACE"). I suggest you install the HQ addon FIRST, rename its folder to plain "addons" and then install your other mods INTO that same folder, so that you will always be playing the HQ mod, no matter what server you are on - and yes, it doesn't matter if the server is running that mods itself...
As for where to get the mods: Yes, wolfman so nicely cut and pasted from an earlier post of mine. Realistically, you only need to know two urls: www.coaxs.net and www.hallsted.us. Most other sites are linked from these two, and the hallsted.us site hosts most of the mods.
When you join a server, the server description will GENERALLY list any mods that are necessary. Another source to find who is on line and what download may be necessary is to look at Boomstick Joes' site: http://www.boomstickjoes.com/treadmarks/ and hit the SERVER STATUS tab. There you will see who is on line and what is needed for many of the servers out there (but not all). Its a start at least...
What Cyber says is true if you want to rustle up a game. Get an ICQ (www.icq.com) number. Its instant messaging that many of the TM players use (you can also use ICQ via trillian - www.ceruleanstudios.com - which also enables use of AIM, IRC, MSN, and Yahoo chat services as well). Most of us have an ICQ number listed in our profiles and if we are online, we may be up for a game or two on non event times.
There are a few dial up players, Cyber and mELONcRACKER being two that come to mind quickly, though I know there are others. If you find doing the downloads too time consuming, just give me or 666 a holler (see our profiles to get our ICQ number/email) and we can burn you a CD of the downloads available to date. Better yet, if you can find Matrix on line sometime (which is hard to do as he is playing RTCW lately), he might do the same for you, and you'd get it quicker as he is in the UK, too.
Whew, long post, but I hope we answered some of your questions.

heh, be forwarned, the HQ pack is a bit more demanding on system requirements...

however, by leaving the TM HQ addons folder active, you can join any SSO server and enjoy a few extra enhancements on those servers.

hmm...no one has explained SSO / Client here...

OK, the way TM works is weapons/tank data files are plain text .ent files (Entities) as such, they can be modified, and a server run with modified files. you download the different files (Takes but seconds) and you have new weapons / whatever. however, image files, sounds, and 3D models will not download in this manner, you must have them already installed for them to work online.

And welcome to treadmarks! If the HQ pack gives you any fits, let me know. A2597@atlantic.net
