Yessssssssssssssssssssss!

I will remind LDA Jim to be there. He said he would. We will leave it as tentive till I get it reconfirmed. But still, it is time to race.

Many may ask ..."So what is the race ladder"

Well, click on my link in my signature line for the rules, weapons, downloads, race ladder status, pics of the results, and best lap times.

So be there...I know I will.

and if you do want to participate in the race ladder, go here to get the mod download you will need.
http://www.hallsted.org/race-ladders/race-ladder-weapons.html

if you've been racing, the download is only 381KB.

if you are new, the download is 1.5 MB, which isn't too big.

toodles,

Hey Cyber...you just need to download the updates...a much smaller file. So don't sweat it.

You all can practice the weapons on a smaller server that I run as a race server with the latest and greatest mods. It will be the only one with racing up when you refresh the internet to logon.

Hope to see you there.

OK...LDA Jim responded to my email so chances are very good that he will be there.

But for all you newbies, I will be posting hints on racing here.

Hint #1 - You don't need to go through the start gate at the very beginning. Yes, you can just drive around them. This could be very important if a large number of racers show up. I often go around the start gate in the very beginning. But note, on lap 2 you will need to go through those gates.

Hint#2 - Follow your arrow. It will point to the next gate that you need to go through or one that you missed. I have on occassion missed a gate and nor realize it till the end...so...pay attention to your arrow.

Hint#3 - Following the white line...is for AI's only. The white lines connecting the gates is more or less the shortest path. Except for a couple of maps. Turtles is a map where it is faster to go around the edge then go through the middle water and bumps.

More hints latter...see you there.

Hint#4 - There are no gold boxes in the race ladder. I took them out. Repair and ammo boxes should only appear at the weapon spawn points, which is between the gateposts.

Hint#5 – Have your camera fixed to your tank base, not your turret. It will be important to have your turret turn around and fire at the racer behind you and still be going forward. One of the reasons I had the Dark Nova switched to the turret. You can take out a crowd of racers behind you without even looking at what you are shooting at when your turret is facing backwards. All the experience racers do it now.

Hint#6 – This is a race…not a DDM. Some think that it may benefit them by camping and firing weapons. Not so, it has been my experience that camping will guarantee that you will lose the race, even if you just camp for a second. Remember, even if you are fragged, your tank will still move. And most importantly, there is a tank behind you that is racing as fast as it can to catch you…yes…every second counts in racing. That is why it is so exciting.

Hint #7 - Don't go fragging turretless tanks...it just not nice. You can go faster then they can. Unless the turretless tank is in your way...then it is OK to boot it out of your way.

666, about hint number 7, at least make sure that the tank is actually in your way and going to remain there.

I suspect that I am going to have to miss this one, and probably many more for awhile. My hardware modem has died and I am having to use the built in software modem right now. My ping is running around 500 or higher when I am lucky. With some of them, if I got some screen caps, I suspect I could take over the lead on the Lord of the Ping list. I will be back to playing as soon as I can, and will continue to read and post on the boards till then.

Racing Highlights: Click on my link in my sig line for the links.

- Racers were 666, GA Queen, Goku, Sailor, Meloncracker, Cybercannon, and the new racers harmless, Cemetery, Marmalizer, Rex, and Pisano.
- At the bottom is the number of races”#” and the total points for all 12 races “Ttl”. I will do this for now on.
- New lap time for 666 on Wind Chill and Serpent.
- Tie for best lap time for GA Queen on Armageddon.
- New lap time for Goku but he refuses to give me the screen shots :P.
- Rex had a taste of the mass driver on the Lion Pass map as I drove backwards on that one flat spot.
- It was a flaming start for all tanks at the start. Being 1st at the start only means you are the prime target…LOL.
- The Ice mines look like ammo boxes, supper ammo boxes, and health’s…yet when you hit them you are trapped. Good choice for a weapon Cyber.
- Famous quote from new racer Marmalizer, “Do I just follow the arrows?”
- Famous quote from Goku on the close finish between him and 666 on the Kahuna map, “ I just about had a heart attack!” Yes, it was close…and very exciting.
- Famous remark to myself as several racer take the wrong turn at gate 6 on Lion Pass, “Do I tell them that they are going the wrong way?”
- Famous quote from the game as I go the right way on gate 6 on the Lion Pass map, “Your in the lead!”

Hmmm, I wonder if I would have done any better with my old modem? I didn't always do well then either.
