Author Topic:   Running my servers again...

It just ocurred to me why not have someone else manage the server but be able to use my pipe?

The main reason why I quit is I don't have time to get the server going, config, patch, flag packs, whatever.

Then I thought DUH - why not give the remote control password to you guys who want to run it? I can use VNC so it won't be proprietary.

And it only runs W2K and Treadmarks on a public connection. So you can't hack into anything.

Thoughts?

After talking with RAS it seems the server is not on LDA anymore. Obviously I'm out of the loop so don't read it like I know what I'm talkin about.

I think logscan might work out perfectly for that.

Jeepers Par

LogScan can do ALOT nowa adays.
Remote map restart
Remote Dedicated.cfg editing
TM Server restart

Tons of stuff. We're using it to control and admin the LDA Community servers.

The only thing it wont do is make coffee, and change around your addons directory. LOL

I tried doing VNC on Bam's server and it flaked out to many times. I would use Killers' TMlogscan for switching the servers and use an FTP for getting the various addons on the server.

Now...what type of pipe are we talking about...hmmm. I would gladly manage another one. The TM community server have yet to be tested beyond 20 players.

Let me know...thx

I think it's because of either my NIC or my router. Right now I've turned it off while I'm out on the road.

It should be a good choice...just depends on yer variables...

Holy smokes Killer - can it do the laundry too?

Seriously - that is one sweet setup.

The pipe is 5 mbit down/up. Server is P4 1.4Ghz with 384MB RAM PC.

And only available on weekends.

What OS would you recommend - XP or W2K Server?

W2k is more secure than XP Home.

Unless its XP Pro, then your talking about the same OS basically (well, W2K got more doodads, bells and whistles, but it shares the same core).

So is it ready to go Par? And will you have FTP on it? Would like to use your server for the next Clan battle in December, just to many players showing up to use the Community server.

Could it be ready by then?

Hey Par, its December 4th and I still didn't get that EMail.

I need at least the IP address to set it up, and you need to set up a MyBoomstick account to get access to the admin pages. Also, do you want anyone else to access the LogScan admin pages for your server?

Yep, Par is getting close to having it done. Hope to have it up for the next Clan battles and possibly for all of the Sunday events. There has been some lag problems with the LDA server.

I'm waiting on Par to let me know when he has installed TM so that I can configure LogScan.
