Since Paranor got busy with RL, these have fallen by the wayside. Not too many people have the bandwidth to support up to 25-30 people playing. Wondering if we could convince LDA to have available to the "loyal community" the use of their server for REAL DDM's. What we would need is:

  • the clan maps installed
  • no AI's on the server
  • 6 Teams set up (you all remember your team color, don't you?
  • Clan Battles one a month, say the last Sunday of the month
  • Remote server access for some trusted member of the community, to make these changes on the server for Sunday Evenings only
  • remark certain weapons, like the shadow. I can't remember what else was changed.

All it would take is to have a Clan Addons folder on the server, just rename it for Sunday evenings only, and have a seperate dedicated.cfg file for the DDM's with the proper maps listed - and with the maps rotated each week. It wouldn't take long at all to do.
Think this could happen? I miss the DDM's and I don't make an effort to attend the not real DDM's. Let's try to make this happen!
PS: Also e-mailed LDA about this

I would settle for just the stock maps without AI's for the DDM. Although the clan maps would be better for both DDM's and Clan battles.

I don't recall exactly, but I seem to remember that LDA's pipe isn't terribly big. Does any know how many their server can reasonably handle?

I know they upgraded their server, and it is bigger than anything out there just now.

Yeap, the LDA server does have the largest pipe out of all the currently running servers out there.

Yes, we have a fiber line into our office, so could run a specific DDM for you.

I might have to upgrade the machine to run the extra server as it scurrently runs on a PII 240 and its stretched a litle thin.

The pipe is shared with our web-site and store and our Rival Ball server, but should be able to handle it.

If someone organizes a set of drop-in files for me then I will set it up for you.

Any one got a higher speck system they are willing to donate

So...I would like to throw out a suggestion of a possible scenario.

Let say that every Sunday the server is set up for DDM for points.
Then every 4th Sunday we have the server set up for Clan match.

Both could have the same setting on the server for both of them, except for the clan battle one would need to put the teams at 6.

I would load the clam maps up with 8 AIís, no teams for the DDMís.
Need the AI to let other play when there is no DDM.
If I remember correctly, it takes 8 players for a DDM to count. Therefore, if an AI shows up in a match at the end the match will not count.

The other setting would be:
- master flag pack on
- no shadow
- clan flags for clan battles
- plasma mines at 50% weight

Need input here on what people think

Sounds good to me.

666, wasn't the weight on the mines put at 30 instead of 50?

after talking with Sailor, this will need to be simple.

There would be the following:

- Addon folder for all maps, flags, and any modded weapons.
- dedicated.cfg for DDM's
- dedicated.cfg for Clan battles

I think that should be easy enough.

As for the plamsa mines. I would just let it go for now. Let's see if they cause problems then change them. Thus only need to take out the shadow. I guess one would put the weapon ent file in the addons with the weight set to zero. That would take it out.

pfft, just leave the plasma mine at normal weight, has it ever really been a power weapon? (usually people just drain it whilst running for a more shootable weapon). Only thing you must needs worry about is the shadow.

Plasma mines lag servers, so if we want this to be 56k friendly, we don't want too many mines floating around
