Hey...Sailor...I am ready for a breif discussion on how you make a map.

I notice at your site you have the height maps and skyboxes along with your finished maps. I also noticed that the height maps can be anything.

I will leave it here for you to reply. Just curious.

Brief reply - Yes you can make a heightmap for a map out of almost anything. The primary criteria is to get the edges to match so you have a seemless map on all sides. That is what sometimes takes the most time to accomplish or can be the killer for a new heightmap to becoming a new map.
One thing you do not see on my site is all the heightmaps I have thrown away because they did not work out. LOL

A technique I use to fix edges is to "roll" the image 50% vertically and 50% horizontally, then use a blur tool to blur the seams, then roll the image back.

My hat is off to all of you modders.

I've been creative in other ways (music), and I keenly appreciate the amount of work that goes into any type of really creative craft.
