happy new year everybody! if you live anywhere near me you will be hearing a series of extremely loud BANGS tonight, as i just finished my Acetylene Cannon. It's one of those beautiful, piss-off-the-neighbors, giant-reuseable-firecracker type things!

Do you even know what acetylene is?

I'm glad I am a few hundred miles from you tonight.

An Irish Blessing
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again.
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

acetylene is an extremely flamable gas which is in this case produced by reacting calcium carbide with water

you dont need to be a few hundred miles from me. its a very controlled explosion that takes place inside high-pressure PVC tubing and each blast is only supposed to use about 1/16 of a teaspoon of calcium carbide

unfortunately, Hobby Nut (our local hobby store) is closed! that was the only place where i could get the carbide! o well i guess ill just have to start work on the potato cannon, which is hair spray powered (i got a book for Christmas called "Backyard Ballistics")

Its just funny to hear a 14 year old kid talk about Acetylene, when I've spent the past 3-4 years working with it. If you wanted a flammable gas theres gotta be easier, and for your sake less deadly, gases to use.

You can have some of ours...we're up to almost a foot today--just today--and there's more on the way!
Shovelled twice, cleaned the car three times (even though I didn't go anywhere)..glad I'm not working until Sunday.. maybe this will taper off a bit before then!

Whue, our neighbors were out of town this week I think. Last 4th of July when we'd just moved here they landed some flaming fire cracker rocket on our roof. pfft :| Of course it had to be the father, the sons only 4-5... least I hope it was the father
btw, I had the pleasure(eek) of talking to matrix the other night during that, lol I think his fingers were feeling a little seasick then right Matrix?
