Hi,

Has anyone tried loading TM as a service or does it need a desktop to run?
I'm considering placing it on an idle server, but I don't want it logged in to run the TMServer, locked aint locked down.
Thanks.

I haven't but there are programs out there that will start programs as a "service". Did you try one of those?

No, I have not, I was just wondering if anyone had and if so, how? Guess when I have some time, I'll guinea pig it on my hack server.

Vortex,
You need some files from the Windows NT Resource Kit to be able to do that. You use INSTSRV.EXE to install a new service. And you use SRVANY.EXE to actually run your .exe file as the service. It's not the most straightforward, but do-able.
I don't think there is any difference between NT 4.0 and 2000 for this.
Here is a link to a site which shows how to set up fax software as a service. For the most part, you should be able to replace "fax" with "Treadmarks", and set up your system step by step. It also has the two files from the ResKit.
www.electrasoft.com/srvany/srvany.htm

Let me know how it goes. I am going to set mine up this way as well.

MelonC,

Thanks for the tip, gonna try it. Next question, I have never started a game server any other way than through the TreadMarks executable which is obviously just a front end for tm and tmvoodoo; does anyone have the command line for starting a game server, tm.exe /dedicated didn't work.
Thanks for the assistance.

Took me long enough, but I have found my answer; tm dedicated.cfg, duhh.. My bad.
Y'all should read the old posts, it shows how open the development of this game has been. /forums/archive/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000385.html

Just thought I would update you folks who are interested.
My first attempt was a total failure; while I can get the service to start, but it doesn't show up on the LAN. The processor spikes to 99%. I'm betting that this application needs a desktop and can't function without it.
I'm going to look for the latest version of srvany and instsrv to see if that will help.
I will keep you posted.

Can you see the Dinochrome Brigade?
When I see it on the server the ping is 0, but I opened that port.
I'm curious to know what others see. Also, I see a funny port. Don't know if it's the firewall or just the feed back as it's local to me.
Come play with the Conan and M163 (sorry kiddies, the sound is the real thing).
Some mod maps, fast paced.

VorDesigns,

You can have multiple server "cfg" files. Just rename them to what they are. For example, I made a soccerserver.cfg for my soccer server and normalserver.cfg for a standard server. Of course, you would change the file for the appropriate stuff.
