Seems like the Modeling forum is dead, like new-undescovered city with no life.
Well lets see, whats to talk about.....

I KNOW...........
Things that would make TM better.


  • Well I think that we all agree that higher...... atitude would be better. You know, where you could make the maps higher.
  • Better onlin capabilities. Alot of this depends on modem speed and higher processor speeds. But things like a service specially made for playing treadmarks online. A service that connects us directly to the other players, like P2P(Peer to Peer). So we "COULD" do a 1vs1 or LAN party, from across the world. Microsoft is coming out with something like this for Xbox. So why shouldn't we do this?

  • Better graphics. This one reason why I think we should use Xbox instead of PS2. Along with faster speed, better gameplay, among other things. Also, like a may have stated in another forum. Many people get the game system for the games themselves.
  • I also think that it would be cool if we could have it so that people with a Xbox or PS2 could play with people who play on the computer. The only thing is that they still wouldn't be able to play with new or old mods and maps.
  • Free-Hand Talking; Basicily, what I mean is speaking or talking with a microphone instead of typing. And for those young people out there or "Others", it could have a filtering system. I know or at least believe a few people have tried this already, but i'm not quite sure how this went.
  • An mode selector. Thats right, little section in TM that allows you to select the mods that you would like to play with. Other wise its a plan game.

  • What if the treads looked more realistic. So, if you create a tank with wheels, it looks like there spining.

Good ideas...I can't comment on them though. Where is Jim when you want to bug him on AIM?

I know of a batch of things LDA is planning to put into TM2, but as usual, TM2 is waiting on the PS2 version of TM before they really start it. Their PS2 conversion is taking longer then they expected (more problems then expected switching from OpenGL to DirectX is part of it as I understand - PS2 uses DirectX as does X-Box).

the only thing missing from Tradmarks graphics wise is this: shadows, and light sources.

it can handel textures up to 1024x1024 in 32 bit color. (Believe me, I know).

meaning that to make the game look better, all one needs to do is re-texture the tanks, trees, etc. apply HIGH res ground maps (512x32bit looks MUCH better then 128x256, again, I know this as I'm doing it)
photo-realistic skyboxes help, and new sprites/weapon effects.

one of my side projects, along with the B5 mod, is a graphics mod for TM, doing the above stated. (Making new skyboxes, new land textes, etc, and just replacing the stock ones. I do not think, however, that I will re-texture the tanks, as texturing that sort of thing is NOT my expertise).

as for moving tread/wheels....
you never really saw what TM2 will do, did you? thats already in there....

Dude, Sage, TM is already very snazzy even if you have a modem (I'd know, ). And you CAN already do Lan Partys, what do you think we've been doing with all 11 or so of us at 666's house hehehehe. Making home made nukes? whoops, didn't say that..... You can already connect with anybody around world sage, I've done it multiple times Take a looksie at the Allow Connects option *eyes light up*

Sage, I don't think anyone was trying to discourage you from posting ideas. They were just pointing out the ones that will happen or are already possible.

1st idea: higher maps means bigger maps (or else the tanks wouldn't be able to climb). I know bigger is possible, but it is also a strain on the processor.

2nd: GA answered this one.

3rd: TM2 is already getting better graphics.

3rd and 4th: me thinks you own an Xbox and not a PS2, yes? Graphics do not determine the quality of gameplay, and one of the nice things about TM is that it has never required a high-powered machine. Also, the PS2 has a larger user base (at least I think that is still true).

5th: Speech would be an interesting feature, but isn't it a drain on bandwidth?

6th: Isn't there a program on the DMF that does this exact thing?

7th: see TM2.

9th, Only Reason it hasn't started distributiion is because LDA does not have enough money to put it on CD's and box it anymore

10th, They're considering making it downloadable, but still not sure

11th, A British (I think its british) company *IS* making TM2 compatible for the PS2 already Sage

To correct golden ant who doesnt read DMF, the uk team (reprocity) did the dirty on LDa, so its been picked up by melbourne based dev team "tantalus" - and thats tm for ps2 not tm2 - dont get the 2 confused.

As for tm2, its not done, dont tell ppl it is.. jim assures me work will begin next year on tm2.

Sage - you can get the TMEDB (Treadmarks Entity Database Manager) on DMF or on the homesite over at DNX Blandys place : www.blandyuk.co.uk

"Lan Partys" - what about LAN PANTIES !!!! - share n share alike is what i say

And btw - its tm on ps2 that will have the moving wheels and dual weapon pickups.

Compatibility with the existing stock servers is likly but as yet unconfirmed.
