Problem with CD-ROM

My son Jon's CD-ROM player on his computer is acting up. Every time he tries to load a CD, the drive just boots it out. Tried different CD's. Same thing happens with other CD's, too. Tried cleaning the CD's. Tried getting to the CD-ROM via "My Computer" verses a short cut on the desktop. Tried just about all I can think of.
Any one have any ideas, or is it time to go shopping for a new CD-ROM drive?

Okay...since you didn't offer more info...you asked for it!!

How old is it? What speed is the CDROM?

You could pull the questionable CDROM and install it in one of the other comps and see if it works there. If not, then it could be the drive. If it does work, then you might want to check the cable or the windows installation. You can install the one from the other comps in his comp and see it works or not, too.

Are you running a virus checker on it?
If you don't have one...here's a free one that will do everything you need one to do. Did I mention that it's free? www.grisoft.com

666 pulled it and installed another one that we had lying around that day. As I haven't talked to 666 other than a quick hi and bye as we pass each other on our way to/from work, I don't know yet what happened.
