DBZ, which stands for Dragon Ball Z is a japanese animation, which first started in 1985 or 86. It didn't come to America until the mid 90's. Well to know the hole story about DBZ or at least part of it, read below:

What is Dragonball?
"Dragonball" began as a gag manga for Akira Toriyama, and was featured in "Shonen Jump" in Japan. It quickly became one of the most popular, if not the most, manga series in Japan. The main character of the series was a young boy named Son Gokou, who had a mysterious tail. After the death of his grandfather, Son Gokou lived by himself in the mountains, secluded from all other humans. One day, a pretty young lady came across him, and there... our journey into the world of "Dragonball" began.
Gokou and the woman, Bulma, went of several adventures in an attempt to collect the seven "Dragonballs," which when all collected, could be used to summon the dragon god Shenlong, and have any one wish granted. During their adventures, they met many friends and fought many villains. We were also shown what Gokouís tail was for... when Gokou looked at the full moon, he transformed into an Oozaru (giant ape), and could only be changed back to normal when his tail was removed, ether that or destroy the moon. The course of "Dragonball" shifted towards a more fighting oriented series with the inclusion of tournaments ("Tenka-ichi Budokai") Which in Japanese means World Martial Arts Tournament, in which Gokou and friends participated in except of Bulma. We were introduced to various unbelievable Ki attacks, and were starting to be shown the true power that Gokou possessed. A Ki attack, is an attack where a person gathers energy from their body, and concentrates all or part of that energy into one specific part of there body. Now you may have heard of the death strike, where an opponent hits you one time in a certain spot and you die, or you become unconscious. Well itís similar to that, only on a much larger scale. You see thatís where the Kamehameha, Renzoku attack, Spirit Bomb, and the Discructo Disc came from, DBZ. Villains such as Tao Pai Pai, Piccolo Daimao, and Ma Junior all played a large part in the series, but somehow, Gokou was able to overcome such unimaginable obstacles, and show true power and spirit. Gokou was married, and left to live with his wife, Chi-Chi, on Paozu Yama. Who is a Bitch, but I love here
Three years later... it all changed.
The Beginning of DBZ
With the arrival of a strange warrior, we were finally clued in to the origins of Gokou, and his strange tail. The warrior was Radditz... Gokouís brother. Radditz by the sound like Radish, well that because most saiya-jin names sound like vegetables. Radditz explained that him and "Kakarotto" (being Gokou) which sounds like carrots, were from the planet Vegeta, and belonged to a race known as the Saiya-jins. Gokou was forced to team up with his adversary, Piccolo (Ma Junior) son to the piccolo which Gokou fought in the World Martial Arts Tournament, in an attempt to defeat Radditz, who had kidnapped Gokouís four year old son son, Gohan. When all seems hopeless, Gohan exploded in a fit of rage, and seriously wounded Radditz. In the end, Gokou was forced to sacrifice his life to defeat Radditz, and Piccolo killed them both with his Makkankosappo ("Killer Demon Screw Blast"). Piccolo took Gohan with him to train... as the remaining two Saiya-jin would arrive in one year to collect these "Dragonballs" that they had heard spoken of. During this time, Gokou would train under the influences of a martial arts master known as the Northern Kaio-Sama, Gohan under Piccolo, and Gokouís friends under Kami-sama (who was, in essence, God). When the two Saiya-jins, Nappa and Vegeta arrived, it seemed that there was no hope. Gokou had not arrived back on Earth yet... Tenshinhan also known as Tien, Yamcha, Chao-zu, and Piccolo were all killed, all these people by the way where in the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament with Gokou. Gohan once more showed us how his emotions could result in a huge power boost, but it was to no avail.... him and Kuririn were doomed. But suddenly, Gokou showed up. With a new technique, A.K.A. the Kaio-Ken, Gokou defeated Nappa, and fought Vegeta in a grueling battle. While Gokou seemed to be the stronger of the two for a while, Vegeta showed us the savagery of a Saiya-jin, turned Oozaru, and defeated (but not killed) Gokou. Gohan and Kuririn rushed back in an attempt to save Gokou. In the end, Vegeta was not killed, and blasted off into space to heal, as Gokou, Gohan, and Kuririn all sighed with relief, and went to the hospital, themselves, to heal.
With Piccolo (and thus Kami-sama) dead, there were no more Dragonballs, which meant that none of their deceased friends could be revived, ďyou see, if Piccolo dies then so does Kami- who created the Dragonballs. Also, Piccolo and Kami where once one person, but early on in DB they separated, because the only way to become watcher of earth, A.K.A God, was to have a pure heart, and thus we have Piccolo. Suddenly, they came to the realization that since Kami-sama and Piccolo were Nameks-the Namek planet must have a set of Dragonballs, as well. They got this idea from northern Kaio-Sama. While Gokou stayed on Earth to heal, Gohan, Kuririn, and Bulma took of to planet Namek to recover the Dragonballs there, to restore their friends to life. But they were not the only ones to search for the Dragonballs on Namek. Vegeta went, as well as the next main villain, the epidemic of evil himself... Freezer.
Vegeta was forced to team up with Kuririn and Gohan to fight Ginyu Tokusentai, Freezer's elite team of warriors. By the way, I believe that Ginyu Tokusentai in Japanese means Dairy Products. All three of them were defeated, and would have probably been killed... had Gokou not shown up, once again, to everyone's rescue. The whole of the Ginyu Tokusentai was defeated, and Gokuu was forced to retreat to a rejuvenation tank to recover, while his friends held off Freezer. During this time, the Namek Dragonballs were used for the first time. To their amazement, the Namek Dragonballs could be used for three wishes.... not just one. The first two wishes were used to wish Piccolo back to life, and teleport him directory to Namek. During the struggle against Freezer, Vegeta was killed, and Freezer transformed through three stages, finishing in an extremely alien-like fourth form. Gokou showed up just in time to have Vegeta beg him to kill Freezer at the hands of a Saiya-jin. From here, Gokou fought Freezer full force. But it wasn't enough. Even the Genki-Dama, Gokouís strongest attack, was not enough to kill Freezer. In Japanese Genki-Dama means Spirit Bomb. This like in the game gathers energy from the planet, the sun and some times other planets to form a large energy ball. It was not until Freezer killed Kuririn... that the deep anger inside Gokuu combined with his other emotions were released, and in a rage, Gokuu transformed... his hair stood up on end and became golden... and we were introduced to the Super Saiya-jin. Super Saiya-jin Gokou had such immense power; Freezer was no match for him. While the two of them fought, the third wish with the Namek Dragonballs was made, and everyone but Son Gokuu and Freezer were teleported to Earth, as the planet Namek was about to explode. In the end, Gokuu allowed Freezer to live, and left the planet Namek shortly before it exploded.
But Freezer wasn't killed.
Well the story goes on and on and on. But thatís pretty much it. If you would like to know more about DBZ and itís more the 300 websites community, just email me at Shiroi-Genki@excite.org or go to www.planetnamek.com and visit there links section, and no I am not Japanese, lol.
