Installed the CTF patch, and now my joystick doesn't work correctly.

I can move the tank backward, but not forward.

I can move to the right, but not the left.

I can rotate the turret right, but not left.

I tried reapplying my joystick options, but no joy. I also ran diagnostics on the joystick, and it tests out fine.

I unstalled/reinstalled 1.5, and the joystick resumed normal operations.

I reapplied the CTF patch, and the same problems recur.

Questions? Thoughts? Anyone else seeing any difficulties?

Ditto..exact same thing for me as you stated above! I also repeated the steps you mentioned to no avail.

I have a Logitech Wingman Digital Joystck, WinME, if that is any help.

Mine's a MS-Sidewinder Precision.

Also, turret rotation speed is MUCH slower with the joystick that with keyboard keys.

Appreciate it.
Knew you would.
If I can help troubleshoot, let me or ramTHIS know. (we're in the same boat.)

Poop! I've got a MS Sidewinder 3D Pro and I'm having the same probs. Oh, well, back to the keyboard for a while, I guess-although I did install a copy of 1.5 on my other HD. Mebbe I'll just play it til the patch is patched.

The posted patch has been changed to TM157Update.exe

This should fix the joysticks....

Thanks, Jim!

I'll download and test this evening (EST) and post my results.

Or ramTHIS, if you read this before I get home, maybe you can do it?

And the results are in.....

Applying the 1.5.7 patch cleared up all the problems with the joystick, I had to define the buttons (including the fire button, which surprised me), but that only took a minute, and now everything is working perfectly!! thanks LDA!

On another note, I reinstalled TreadMarks into a second folder and called it TreadMarks 1.5.7 and then applied the patch only to this directory, leaving an unaltered version of the game on my comp, as well. Now I have 2 shortcuts on my desktop : one to the original, and one to the patched. Both work fine independantly.

So, crisis avoided

What you need to do is the following to use both version and conserve diskspace:

In the 1.5.5 install: create a Dirs.cfg file and put the path to Music, Art, Maps, and Entities (make sure that the Music, Art...etc is in the path name) referencing the 1.5.7 install. Then you can delete those 4 dirs.

Based on my recollection (which could easily be wrong), I thought there were one or two new config entries with the CTF patch. Will the 1.5.5 executable ignore them or choke?

All the config info is stored in the registry. TM just pulls out what it needs, so the old version will just not even look at the new stuff...

Sorry, forgot to post my results, Jim.

All joystick funtions worked correctly, turret rotation speed was corrected, etc...

Thanks, Jim, Tom, & RC for burning the midnight oil on that. The CTF maps are a blast ,BTW!
