Yes, a chunk of metal fired from a vulcan cannon that can penetrate armor from two miles away. Too bad this plane is out of date and is soon to be scrapped.

Yeah, it's a shame they can't just redesign it or something. Ah, well--it's had it's day, I guess. Used to want one of my own when I was a kid--thought it'd be fun to demolish buildings(or whatever) with those 30mm shells LOL.

Question is - "Is it really out of date"? Probably not - when used properly. Still the best dedicated close support aircraft in the world. Armored like a mofo and armed out the wazoo. Heard that they had a few that literally came back in with a huge chunk of the wing missing and only one engine still going - and it still landed safely during the fighting in the middle east. Ever since they came into service some muckety mucks in the service wanted to get rid of them. The reason - they weren't glamourous enough. Hopefully they will keep it in service. In the Air Guard at least so it is available if needed.

They have been saying that for years and the planes keep flying.

That is because they don't have anything that will really replace it.

Russia has a plain that is just like it but alot faster. This russian craft has thick armor, a powerful vulcan cannon but with something better. The ability to break the sound barrier. Ashame the A10 is so slow.

Not really Dal, I have yet to have heard of a tank or APC that can move at speeds anywhere near that of mach 1.

Vulcan cannon?

The A-10 uses a 30 mm GAU-8/A seven-barrel Avenger ( http://www.periscope1.com/demo/weapons/artguns/airguns/w0003596.html ).

The Vulcan is the GE M-61A1 20mm multibarrel cannon used on the F-16/F-15 fighters( http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/arm/arm8.htm ).

Not really, that much mass at that altitude could be disasterous.

For those of you interested in a world with a huge tank dominating, seek the Bolo.
Keith Laumer http://www.sfsite.com/isfdb-bin/exact_author.cgi?Keith_Laumer
http://www.gpfn.sk.ca/~geis/bolo/index.html

And for those interested in futuristic combat literature surrounding humans may I suggest David Drake's "Hammer's Slammers" series.

name meanings meaning names, naming names and ... oh nevermind.

harmless... i have been called that on a couple
of occassions, which i take as a compliment.
i rarely play online, but when i do, it seemed
like a good name, especially if i can come out
on top... the irony of it all.

and since we're giving obscure references to
game reviews, i did do my part...
novell connection is a monthly netware magazine and
back in aug 2000, they reviewed TM from my
suggestion. and yes, the t-shirt thank-you looks very spiffy on me

---
they moved the link and made it into a pdf

---

now i'll embarass my brother, FBunny, but since he
never reads the forum, he'll never know
a while back, a friend of my brother forced
him to play quake online. back then, he was
reeaaallllly good at quake, and he liked the
idea of a Fluffy Bunny ripping through the
quake levels. (no monty python holy grail reference intended)
so when our other brother, 666, forced us to
play TM online, Fluffy Bunny became FBunny,
and i became harmless.

and i can feel the eyes rolling in their sockets....
"forcing someone to TM play online"....

well, let me tell you you youngsters you...
vigorously shaking my finger....
i remember back in the old days when all we
had were sticks and rocks to play with,
and we were happy to have our sticks and rocks and we played with them for hours on end. our dad only had rocks, he didn't have sticks and he made sure we knew that he only had rocks to play with as a kid so that we would appreciate our good fortune. those were the good ol' days... but now, you youngsters you, with your fancy computer games and bam zap special effects, you wouldn't even know what to do with sticks and rocks if you were given them..... why i..... one moment...
it's time for my medication again... why do they have to make these pills so gall-darn large anyway... now where was i ... drat, forgot what i was going to say... hmmm, it sure has been rainy here lately, hmmmm... i think i'll go take a nap now.

CyberCannon, perhaps you should take a break from things that have anything to do with reading. I was talking about a aircraft which was spawned from talk about the A10 Thunderbolt 2. I don't know where you're geting it that I'm talking about a tank.

nit pick; A10 has an 'avenger' 30mm cannon (longer than some cars) the 'vulcan' is a 20mm cannon
