Author Topic:   Where to try out weapons mods

I'm running 1.5 full.

If I download and install weapons (or map) mods, should I expect to see them on the practice range?

My experience so far says no. I see new weapons in standalone games, but not on the test range.

Is this consistant with the game design? Seems to me that new weapons would show up for testing.

Just want to manage expectations.

p.s. my son, "ramTHIS", fresh home from college, is now totally in love with TM

I don't think they're supposed to show up... Remember - there's a missile and a shooting range - no way the prog can determine whether the new weapon you just downloaded is a missile or something else. Thus, those must be hardcoded into the pratice levels.
Well, that's what I think, at least.

ok, I appreciate that perspective, Dreamer. Not being a "modder" so far, I don't know what all is contained in those files that might tell the game what's enclosed.

Any other thoughts out there?

LDA, any definitive statements on this question?

I can be definative. No, they will not automatically show up in the practice maps unless they have the same name as an old weapon (not filename, but the actual in-file name)

But then again, with no or dumb bots, isn't basically every level a training ground? I use DM-Caldera most of the time.

No - they will not appear on the practice maps. Those maps have spawn points set up for specific weapons only, not general spawning of any weapon. Though you can alter, say, the Cruise Missile spawining file (located in the entities/course folder) to specify your weapon instead.

Speakin of sheep...................................
the dumbest animal there is is the turkey.
Ever wonder why farmers put roofs over their pens. Well its because in the rain they open their throats and and stick there nickes stirght up and drown themselves. I learned this from my cousin who came home with a big fat ol cow sitting in his liveing room,Snapping turtle in his sink, samon in his bath tub, peacock in his backyard..........etc now if that isn't just a bit on da strange side u tell me what is
