First: I love the game, I've been playing the game since it first appeared at download.com, so basically 2 weeks after tit came out. And I'm sure a bunch of people recognize me here.

second: I've been launching dedicated servers and I was wondering how to make homing bullets and a server that is for the shareware version of the game

I'm assuming that you've got the demo still (buy the full version, it's worth it).

Open up the .ent file of the bullet that you want to edit. The .ent files for projectiles are in (oddly enough) the entities/projectiles/ directory. There's four lines that you want to look at to affect the guidance of bullets. I'll copy them directly from the readme that's included with the full game:

quote:
guidespeed = fraction of distance to target for m/s acceleration. e.g. 0.1 would be gravitic accel at 100 meters.
guidemax = maximum accelerative speed change, 5 is default.
guidebias = amount to bias rear target distances in closest target calc, 2.0 will make rear targets half as likely.
guideramp = seconds before guidance is at max force, default is 1.0.

ok, i'm sorry about being a thickheaded idiot, but i don't quite get what guidespeed does quite yet. If you wanted something to home in more accurately, would you turn it up or down? thanks for clarification.

Guidespeed simply controls the acceleration. At further distances, the acceleration factor is smaller. It controls that factor.

Cool deal Random!! Now I "think" my tiny brain is beginning to understand that acceleration thing for the GuideSpeed etc.

Might a negative number (or whole number perhaps?) reverse the normal behavior ? If the farther the distance the slower the accel.. then could you reverse it so the farther away.. the faster the accel.. (or vise versa) ?

ugh.. brain hurting.. must.. stop...... thinking..... <thud>

Not quite sure it would work with negetive numbers. I have successfully made guided weapons, but they are a pain to get the guidence correct for...

I'd recommend putting those into groups by class (spewer, smoke, projectile, etc), and start another thread where we can try and figure them all out.

Most of those I know what they do - I just haven't had the time to sit down and write them down...

Okay, first person to say that list five times fast gets a free cotton candy milkshake and a hug from Hawk... Kaeto's assassin. This is after he has bathed of course... we don't want anyone getting rabies, leprosy, and the such... not to mention hawk cooties (i would just like to remind you that the signifigance of this message is simply, don't ask me... i'm here to annoy you in my spare time. Thank you).
