I get this message every time i've tried to play the game this week:
it's one of those "illegal operation boxes" and it says "Ddhelp This program has performed an illegal operation. If the problem continues, contact the program vendor."
What do I do? I want to play my game!

If by this week, you mean that it worked last week, then some file has been corrupted.

You may need to re-install Direct-X and re-install the game.

Otherwise, Try running in windowed mode. If that works then check for something different running in the background.
