Hegemony Gold Alpha 2 Now Available! Update: Alpha 3!

By Rick,

If you've been following Hegemony Gold, be sure to download the new build. This update includes some new features and lots of bug fixes. Unfortunately, this new build will break any saved games you've created while playing alpha 1, but alas, such is the cost of being on the bleeding edge.

As always, we appreciate any and all of your comments, so head over to the forums and let us know what you think, or just email me directly with your thoughts.

Update: There was a bug in Alpha 2 that made kill quests impossible to complete, so the download link now points to a new alpha 3 build.

Hegemony review on The Bonebat Show!

By rob,

We just got word that Gord and Steve of The Bonebat Show, a "Podcast Award-nominated comedy and pop culture podcast from Seattle", picked up a copy of Hegemony at PAX and have done a review in episode 55 of their show. Check it out here.

Follow us on Facebook!

By Rick,

This has been a pretty well-kept secret for the last couple of months, but we've created a Facebook page for Longbow Games. If you're into the whole social networking "thing", be sure to "like" us!

Hegemony on X-Play!

By rob,

G4 tv's X-Play has included Hegemony in their top 10 indie games to watch. Check out the clip here: Hegemony on X-Play

Update: Itamar Weisberg over at Hamis`hakia, a Hebrew gaming podcast, has posted an interview he had with Rick at GenCon this year. Most of the site is in Hebrew, but he made an exception for this podcast, which is in English. Check it out here.

Announcing Hegemony Gold: Wars of Ancient Greece! Get the alpha now!

By Rick,

You spoke and we listened! Today we're announcing Hegemony Gold: Wars of Ancient Greece, a major expansion to Hegemony which includes Hegemony: Philip of Macedon as well as a new diplomacy module, a sandbox mode, two new campaigns, and lots of other goodies.

Now, you're probably thinking "But Rick, a game that great must be worth a billion dollars!" And you would be right! But since we're such nice guys, we're not even asking for your firstborn child. In fact, if you've already purchased Hegemony, you can get Hegemony Gold for free!

We're planning to release Hegemony Gold in November, but why wait? You can try the alpha now! Download it here and it will install beside Hegemony: Philip of Macedon, so you don't need to worry about it screwing with your current game. The new scenarios do require a valid serial code, though, so you're probably only going to be interested in this if you've already purchased Hegemony.

The changes we've been making are based on the hundreds of conversations we've had with all of you on the forums and on our recent convention tour, so we think you'll like them, but we're only five guys, so we'd really like your help testing Hegemony Gold! Try out the alpha and let us know what you think in the forums or by emailing me directly.

Home from PAX

By rob,

With the crowning of another Omeganaut and the exit of the cos-playing masses, PAX Prime is officially over for another year. We made it back to the office Monday but after days of nine hour expos, five hour concerts and a sleepless flight home we're just beginning to get back to normal. We got to meets lots of cool people at the show and in a few surreal moments found out both Tycho and Steve Jackson are fans of the game. We also met with a lot of press and did a ton of interviews over the weekend and I'll try to get all the links up as I find them. For starters here is some coverage on G4 and what was at the time a bizarre cos-play interview with Machinima. If you're a fan of PA and watch the cos-play video you might figure out why we kept getting biblical references all weekend. I was also told we'd be on X-Play this week but I don't know when.

Big thanks to Gabe, Tycho, PRD, Robert, all the enforcers (especially our personal enforcer, Raptor) and everybody else who helped organize this amazing show and gave us the chance to showcase our game. And don't forget to check out the other PAX 10 winners, which is a testament to how great the indie game scene has become. Some of our favourites include Puzzle Bots, Altitude, and everyone's favourite side of beef, Super Meat Boy.

PAX officially ended our summer Hegemony tour and so we're going back to doing the whole 'developer' thing again which might mean the news will be a little quieter but don't worry we've got some big plans underway so stay tuned for more announcements in the coming months.

As a reminder, we're doing a Hegemony discussion panel at the IGDA Toronto chapter meeting tonight at Metro Hall in Toronto at 7:30.

Update: Some coverage over at Bombcast about an hour into their podcast as well as on their forums. There's also a summary post on DIYGamer with promises of more to come.

Update 2: Dexter345's blog post on the PAX 10 is now up on Destructoid.

We're off to PAX!

By rob,

The news is coming pretty quickly these days so in case you missed it Longbow is heading to the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) in Seattle, Washington this weekend to show off Hegemony as part of their PAX 10 indie game showcase. Hegemony will be playable at booth 3017 and as usual we'll have copies for sale at the low low price of $20 and we'll even throw in a box, manual and disk for free! Since we had to mail them across the country we've got a limited number of boxed copies so don't wait till Sunday to get yours. We also invite everyone to come to the PAX 10 panel on Saturday evening where we'll be answering questions along with some of the other PAX 10 finalists.

And for those closer to home we'll be doing another discussion panel on Sept 9 as part of the Toronto IGDA's monthly meeting. The panel will take place in room 310 of Metro Hall starting at 7:30pm. I believe the meetings are open to anyone whether you're an IGDA member or not and we'll be heading out for drinks after the talk.

Hegemony on the air

By rob,

Rick gave a lengthy interview about Hegemony with Andy and Dave from the Random Access Podcast as part of their annual PAX 10 episode. If you want to skip ahead he's about 15 minutes in but I'd recommended checking out the whole episode as there are a lot of interesting games in this year's showcase.

Jim also did a few interviews at Fan Expo and I'll try to get those up as soon as they become available.

Update: As promised here's an interview Jim did with Two Guys Talking Webcomics. Kurt from TGT tells me there is more they are working on so stay tuned and I'll post it as soon as I have it.

Update 2: The Mohawk Panda team have posted another interview with Rick on YouTube. Check that out here.

Update 3: Jim's interview with RGB filter is now online.

Hegemony at FanExpo

By rob,

After visiting GamesCom last week in Germany we're sticking a little closer to home this weekend and running a booth at FanExpo right here in Toronto. As usual we're offering half-price on the boxed version of Hegemony which is only available at the show. Look for us next to DC Comics and behind the giant Tron booth right in the middle of the show. There's also a discount code out there for those who can't make it to the show but I'll leave that to the detectives amongst you to figure out.

For those at the show, Philippe will be on a panel Sunday at 12:30pm in room 205A talking about the local video game industry and for those on the west coast don't forget we're going to be at PAX next weekend in Seattle.

Update: Now that the show's over check out Jason MacIsaac's blog for some wrap up and photos (he moderated the panel Philippe was on). Another couple links about Philippe's panel: DorkShelf, Untold Entertainment.
