Didn't bother to read all the rigamerol(sp) post the the third non-comment from Matrix and the KV PC wishes. Here are mine Happy what have you, Merry Christmas, belated Happy Channuka, Many happy returns of the Gentile commercialization of religeeous martydom, can't wish us peace on earth becuase that would require the total erradication of all life forms on the planet and I kinda like being around regardless of health problems, President Rove, ill-will towards a specific segment of the California population which includes a fair chunk of my family from some no account who has this game and a diagnosis by the doctor essentially telling me that they haven't a clue what put me in the ER. So, from some one enjoying a California winter of some 65 degrees at th momeent; Chestnuts roasting in the microwave, - Santa Ana winds stuffing up your nose. Yuletide carols being butchered by Beyonce, - and folks still wearing shorts and summer clothes. Ganged out punks with no respect for their ho's, - might get picked up in the sweeps tonight. Everybody knows a drive by and a Perrier, - help to make the season bright. Although its been said many times many ways, - Merry X-Mas to you all. ------------------ Echoes from the Void = You can kill them, but you cannot make them surrender - http://www.vordesigns.com/tm

If that is true (and Lord knows what you read on the internet is always true *cough*) then you could say that our objections are born of ignorance. However, I shan't be saying that simply because the spirit of our prior debate is unchanged by this bit of etymological revelation. Firstly, you obviously didn't know that simply because if you did then you couldn't of used the term Xmas in your greeting and have been true to your beliefs. As it says: "Many therefore frown upon the term Xmas because it seems to them a commercial convenience that omits Christ from Christmas." Secondly, people ARE ignorant of the supposed Greek origins and ARE using the term Xmas in exactly the way we're objecting to. So it really changes nothing about our prior debate. In fact, the only thing it should change is an avowed atheist's usage of the term. *was already sitting in darkness and mumbling - continues to do so* IP: |

You answered your own question.I said "And thats not even from the athiests point of view..." The reason is as you correctly stated: "people ARE ignorant of the supposed Greek origins"... Why would people who have no belief in a GOD have any interest in reading about it. My assumption from this is basicly that its slipped passed many ppls gaze over the years and become the accepted norm. Right or wrong, thats just how it is today. What im more amazed at than anything is why you didnt point out the fact that "Xmas has been used for hundreds of years in religious writing"... after all, im athiest, i dont "believe" in your understanding of "god". What i do know, is that I had to point out things to you, from a book you get your own religion from, id have assumed that a religious person such as yourself would have already known the origins of the bible and how it has evolved through translation to suit differing cultures the world over. I would have rather imagined you would have pointed it out to me. Some ppl like Parnor goto meetings to discuss things exactly like this, perhaps this could be a topic of conversation you could have at length with your pasteur, or priest, or group. Id be interested in your findings. IP: |

I'm not aware of having asked a question in my last post. And as you say, I would not expect you to inquire about it. But there's been no reason for me to inquire either. No where in the Bible is the term Xmas used. Nor does the typical lay person study Greek. In as much as I study the Bible, I study it to learn its lessons. That sometimes means diving into a bit of etymology simply because (as you point out) some translations have their flaws. But since Xmas isn't used anywhere in the Bible, I've had no reason to study it. And since the term is indeed used by the ignorant masses (including formerly you and I) in the way we debated earlier, this still doesn't change the nature of our prior debate. In terms of pointing something out to me from the Bible that I didn't know... what was that again? There's LOTS in the Bible that I still have to learn. But I missed the lesson you gave. As far as your imaginations go, I have never claimed to be anything close to a theologian. If I have a bit of insight concerning a scripture (such as the goodwill verse) then I share it. That is all. So your imaginations about what I should know are just that. But there’s nothing wrong with high expectations. Feel free to keep my feet to the fire. IP: |

"But I missed the lesson you gave." - Dont worry, i get that a lot lol ...."Feel free to keep my feet to the fire" - Dont know what you mean im sure Im not privvy to what you do or dont know according to your beliefs or deapths of lesson, i was merely pointing out that it has religious connection.. to have such opinted out by a non-believer could be construed in some fashion as..... embarrasing, as in, "i dont tell you how to do your job because i know nothing about it" lol... Still, if all my text has gone over your head, in all its debatable glory and various paths, perhaps its best i leave it at that - i dont feel i can add any more to lend credence to religious facts which are clearly beyond the knowledge of those who presume to debate them. Perhaps reading up next time or a consulation with a spiritual leader b4 opening the door to the floodwaters. ps: arent smilies REALLY cool lol .... IP: |

Hmm. So you are often misunderstood? The implication of course is that the deepness of your profundity is so fraught with portent that few can understand. *COUGH* Or perhaps it's merely that that deepness so resembles the manic ramblings written on the restroom stalls of a booby hatch THAT... few can understand.Which is it? The world may never know. IP: |

One of the reasons I started researching for monotheism was the fact that many wise atheists realized the truth on their own: (Einstein, Plato, Blake, Spinoza, Poe) IP: |
