I am not that much of a dunce. Sheesh. I am perfectly aware of the difference. And I can assure you that my system is way powerful enough to overcome any video lag. The idea in my brain and what I thought was being talked about was updates and how the view affected them. In other words, to have a view of 1000 you have to have that information sent to you. The implication is that a view of 500 requires less information to be sent. Now I have no clue about the internal workings of the game. That's what you're here for. But give me some credit. Irascible, Where did you see your name in my post? When I write to you in a post i will put your name. My post was an attempt to get everyone on the same page, listing as much of what has been going back and forth in this thread. You know what, all I've been trying to do is help out around here but I'm getting really tired of this. People wanted to be able to have a bunch of configs on the LDA servers so I spent a week coding it in logscan. Then nobody wanted the position of configuring the servers when I asked for a community election, so I chose them from people I have delt with and could trust. Then people b*tch about not picking them themselves. Then someone shows up with a client side mod to bring up a hidden tank. That day I got blamed by at least 2 dozen people for messing with the server WHEN I DID NOT HAVE FTP ACCESS TO IT TO BEGIN WITH. There was posts about netrate netrate, I posted information to help. I got crap for it. Now you all are talking about how to do this and that to fix lag, but some of you donot fully understand where lag comes from, so I posted some general information FOR EVERYONE. People bitched about 666 being admin? Pfft. Kong was raising heck about it because he's in that sort of mood. In fact, if you read carefully I defended the choice of 666 for the EXACT reason you mention. As I told you when it happened, I can't imagine what boobs would have suggested you messed with the servers. I was unaware that two dozen people even played this game. ;^) Anyway, I know it wasn't me and I doubt it was any of the "good old stalwarts". Who gave you crap about netrate? I missed that. No, no one is giving you crap about explaining lag. But, you assumed we were mixing video lag and network lag when I don't believe we were. We just came up with a new and creative way that they could be related. Anyway, you're obviously stressed. So please forgive the use of the word "sheesh" or anything else that you interpreted as giving you crap. I have various groups of people that I put into diff categories. There are the people that I talk to like they were my brothers - in other words, with no respcet (like my buddy 666 ). In the end, those people know I think well of them even though I hassle them. Then there are people that I talk to sort of in between - not too sarcastic, not too somber (like Sue). Then there's people who I have to walk on eggshells with in order to avoid offending and causing them to blow up (like Matrix back when he and I were not so friendly). I thought I had made my support for you in and your work clear in our previous conversations. As such, I thought I could speak "good ole boy" with you and not worry about you taking it as "giving you crap". But, I was wrong. So, to the middle you go. Should you continue to be stressed, then it will be the eggshell category all the way. lol  IP: |

Oops, I forgot the fourth category of person. That would be the person that I WANT to piss off, like Max... or even Matrix back when we weren't so friendly. It's funny how Matrix use to occupy both the eggshell and want to piss off categories. Quite the balancing act it was. LOL! IP: |

So are there 2 different types of lag?
Local lag which has to do with your TM setting.
Network lag which has to do with the data being sent to the local computer.

Irascible: Kong was not the only one, and this isn't the first time something like this came up. I get crap from people on ICQ who are too chicken to post on the forums. I just ignore em. All I have is an ICQ number as they're not on my list. I know they're TM players because they comment about stuff on the forums. But its been getting to the point where I can't get trough a few hours without some smartass ICQing me that I'm some nosey, obnoxious freek. Wow. I'm astonished. Seriously, I'm not being sarcastic at all. That's not to say I'm naive. I realize crap like you describe goes on all the time, and worse. People just plain suck. But at the same time, the people that tend to get stuck with that crap often deserve it because they do stupid things to bring it upon themselves. In fact, with all the idiotic flames I've engaged in, I've only ever gotten two such messages. Surely I deserve more! ;^) But in you're case, I've NEVER seen you do anything to deserve what you describe. And I've seen you contribute one hell of a lot. So I just don't get it, other than to say people REALLY suck. And if I may be so bold, I think maybe I became a lightening rod through which you released some of that suckage induced stress. In any event Killer, thus far I have NEVER intended to argue with you in a harsh way or give you crap about anything. Personally, I've thought of you as "good ole Joe" for a long time now. Somehow I fear that could be looked upon by some as flattery. But I think that's an irrational fear since it's not like I'm known for compliments or flattery anyway. IP: |
